Exciting news - The County is relaunching Monday Face to Face evening bridge:

On the 2nd Monday of each month there will be a ‘Matchpointed’ Pairs evening

On the 4th Monday of each month there will be a ‘IMP’ Pairs evening.

Because Claines is unavailable on the 12th of May the scheduled Matchpointed Pairs event has been cancelled.

Because of the Bank Holiday at the end of May the IMP Pairs that month will be on the 19th of May.

The first session was held on Monday 23rd September, and was very successful with 8 tables playing IMP Pairs.

On the 9th of December a Christmas Charity Teams Event was held with 10 teams taking part.

The next session will be an IMP Pairs event on the 19th of May.

It is intended that these will be friendly and social, but competitive.

The venue will be The British Legion Club, Cornmeadow Lane, Claines, Worcester, (where Worcester Bridge Club plays on Wednesday evenings).  Post code is WR3 7PL

Please arrive before 7pm, so bridge can start by 7pm if possible.

If you plan to play, please notify Dennis Loynes on 07773 365760 or by e-mail to: dennis.loynes.dl@gmail.com (But if you forget to book don’t worry – you'll still be welcome.) A list of players registered for the next event can be found here.

The charge will be £3 per player, which will include tea/coffee and biscuits in the interval.  The County Treasurer will invoice you periodically for the evenings that you play (i.e. cashless on the evening).

Midland Counties League

We played the final Midland Counties League match of the season yesterday against Gloucestershire. This has always been one of the most difficult fixtures of the season because Gloucestershire always puts out strong teams. However, on this occasion we won all three matches – well done to the players. Particularly well done to the Markham Team who, needing to win 15-5 to win the division, actually managed to win 16-4. So they were placed first in the Markham division and, no less creditably, the Porter Team were runners-up to Oxfordshire in the Porter division.

This performance by our county, which is far from being one of the larger ones in the Midland Counties League, reflects well not just on our players, and their commitment to playing in these matches, but also on our clubs in providing a challenging playing environment to help our teams to sharpen their game.

The Markham (third) team will now go on to compete in the Inter County League National Final representing the Midlands on the 8 June.
