HOSTING
Members with an NGS of at least 4 are asked to volunteer to host a minimum of once a year and preferably twice. To host at any session other than Supervised sessions and Tuesday/Friday mornings, you should have an NGS ranking of at least 6. Please click on "calendar month" to book in as host. Please click here for full instructions.
Hosts must play with any player who requires a partner for the session (providing they satisfy the necessary NGS guidelines given below). It is the host’s responsibility to assess their partner’s level of expertise and, if required, register NGS exemption prior to the start of the game. This can be done through your MyEBU account. (Follow the link to Utilities and Register NGS Exemption.) Once the game has commenced, the host’s NGS cannot be exempted.
Hosts should only volunteer for a session once per month but may volunteer for different sessions. e.g: a host may volunteer for one Tuesday session and one Friday session but not two Tuesdays (or Fridays) in the month. Please do not book to host at more than two sessions a month unless there is a session without a host the day before the session. This allows more members the opportunity to do their host duty.
Hosts will be credited with two free play vouchers as well as play for free in their host session. Hosts can park in the car park at the rear of the building, please park carefully in the marked spaces only.
Please be kind and courteous to your partner and the opponents and don’t offer advice, unless it is sought!
ARRIVING WITHOUT A PARTNER
The hosts at WBC are primarily partners for visitors and new members to the Club. If you do not have a partner for an occasional session, a host is normally available but it is important that as you begin to play at the Club regularly you build up a bank of partners (and friends) with whom you can play rather than routinely rely on the host.
There is no minimum NGS grade required for individuals arriving without a partner to play at Supervised sessions and Tuesday/Friday mornings. To come without a partner to play at all other sessions, a minimum NGS grade of 5 is required. Of course, if you have a pre-arranged partner you can play at any session regardless of your NGS grade. You will gradually find the most appropriate sessions in which to play (or ask for guidance from a Committee member).
If you do need a partner the ‘Partner Finder’ function on the WBC website can be used. This allows you to request a partner for any session. Please click here for full instructions
There is also a ‘Partner Finder’ function on Pianola - here . Do check on the calendar as to whether a member is looking for a partner.
If you do come on your own, please arrive at the Club at least 15 minutes before the start of play so that you can be partnered in good time with another single player or the host without causing delay to the start of play.
Please be kind and courteous to your partner and remember that it is important to find yourself a regular partner and not rely on the host system entirely.
